In our classrooms, we serve students. Teachers must know their customer and study them as intimately as they expect students to study content in the class.
The goal of this mini course is to provide teachers with concrete tools to proactively address trauma when it appears in their classrooms. We will equip teachers with resources and ideas to help them create a classroom experience that honors rigorous content exploration through the lens of personal identity for students.
With a two-prong approach of weaving literature/narrative writing and restorative practices, a teacher can confront and appropriately address and facilitate dialogue about trauma in their classrooms.
Uniquely, this course is designed from the perspective of a secondary educator and adjunct professor in concert with a community member in Washington, D.C. who is a trauma victor and thriver.
